Get Started with Trezor | Trezor.io/start

The official guide to setting up your Trezor® hardware wallet securely and easily.

Welcome to Trezor – Take Control of Your Crypto

Trezor® is one of the most trusted hardware wallets in the world, designed to help you protect your cryptocurrencies through advanced security and simple design. Whether you’ve purchased a Trezor Model One® or Trezor Model T®, setting up your wallet via Trezor.io/start ensures a safe and verified experience.

In this guide, you’ll find everything you need to securely initialize your device, install the necessary software, and begin managing your crypto assets like a pro.

Step 1: Unbox and Inspect Your Trezor®

When you open your package, make sure that the box is sealed and has not been tampered with. Inside, you should find:

If you suspect your device has been compromised, do not proceed with the setup. Only trust devices purchased directly from the official Trezor store or certified resellers.

Step 2: Go to Trezor.io/start

Open a web browser and type Trezor.io/start into the address bar. This is the official portal for getting started with your Trezor device. From here, you will be guided through downloading the Trezor Suite®, which is the primary app for managing your wallet.

Always double-check the website address to ensure you're not on a phishing site. The real site will never ask for your recovery seed or private keys.

Step 3: Install Trezor Suite®

Trezor Suite® is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems. There is also a web-based version for browser access. Download the desktop app as recommended for optimal security and functionality.

Once installed, open the app and connect your Trezor® device via the included USB cable. You will be prompted to either create a new wallet or recover an existing one.

Step 4: Set Up a New Wallet

Choose “Create new wallet” if this is your first time using the device. The Trezor® will generate a recovery seed consisting of 12 or 24 words.

This recovery seed is the only way to restore your wallet if your device is lost or damaged. Trezor will never ask you for your seed phrase.

Step 5: Set a PIN and Optional Passphrase

During setup, you’ll be prompted to create a PIN code to protect your device from unauthorized access. Make sure to use a strong PIN and avoid obvious combinations.

For additional security, advanced users can enable a passphrase—an extra word or phrase added to your seed that creates a hidden wallet only you know exists.

Step 6: Add Cryptocurrency Accounts

Inside Trezor Suite®, you can add accounts for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and other supported cryptocurrencies. Each account is stored securely on your device, and only the corresponding public keys are visible in the Suite for management.

Step 7: Receive and Send Crypto

To receive crypto:

  1. Go to the “Receive” tab in Trezor Suite®
  2. Select your account and generate a new address
  3. Verify the address on your device screen before using it

To send crypto:

  1. Navigate to the “Send” tab
  2. Enter the recipient address and amount
  3. Confirm all details on your Trezor® device screen

Every transaction must be physically approved on your Trezor®, adding an extra layer of protection.
